Battery 3?? - 2008/02/13 14:11 Besides live drums, I've used beats from keyboards, drum machines and loops in Acid. I just got Battery 3 because I feel like I've exhausted my electronic options and see Battery as a way to be creative and make my own beats. I've got it intalled but I'm sure I'm not using it the way it is meant to be.

I've played it two ways so far:

-by using my Boss DR-202 as a controller and playing my old beats through Battery

-using my full sized MIDI keyboard to play a sound in Battery

I guess my question (which is not answered in the manual or the tutorial videos) is this:

How do I build beats with this program? Is it mearly an instrument? If I want to make loops with it (and I do) how do I do it?

For those of you who have used this program-thank you in advance for responding to my dumb question?

-Keith

Re:Battery 3?? - 2008/02/13 18:02 I haven't used battery but I do build a lot of beats using samplers.

Personally I program all of my beats in the FL Studio midi sequencer. It sounds like you're doing it right - I guess I don't understand what the problem is.

I guess some ways to take more advantage of a good multisampled kit's capability is to make sure you vary velocity on each drum hit, and take the time to select your kick and snare sounds within the kit to make sure they fit the groove you're trying to build.

Re:Battery 3?? - 2008/02/14 00:43 I guess I am hoping there is a way to "build" a beat like I do on my drum machine:

-Set it to a certain number of measures and a bpm
-hit record
-during the first pass hit the kick
-during the second pass play the high-hat
-etc... until I have my loop

Re:Battery 3?? - 2008/02/14 00:54 You would do that in your DAW using some midi record functionality, I would assume? Not sure if ACID has realtime midi recording functionality or loop recording, but I'd assume it does. FL Studio can do what you are describing so if all else fails you might want to download the demo and export from it (features are not disabled in the demo, except for saving of project files)

Hope this helps. The feature you should look up in ACID help would be something like "loop recording" or "MIDI recording" or something along those lines.

Re:Battery 3?? - 2008/02/14 18:37 I thought about this a little more and I'm sure that if ACID doesn't feature this there is a free midi recording utility out there than can do this. I just don't know what it might be, might take a little internet sleuthing.
