Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/02 07:56 You must listen to Exit/Exit! Fantastic!

Also: take this to your web home and Pimp the Jukebox to the world!

Alright, now that I'm all over the "latest posts" list, I think I'll go to bed.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/02 20:08 Wednesday goodies:

Jim Anderson knives jam - kicking jazz
Gumbo Stu - without question Stu brought his A game this year. Whoa, this stuff is good.
Matthew Loiacono - Infinitely Red - voice and drum, great harmonization, I like this one a lot
Nothing not to like here.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/02 22:15 Arkhanos's 2008 self-titled entry is so evocative... its what I had in mind when I started in february but took a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/03 01:05 Listening to the random tracks on the jukebox, here are my favs so far:

The Calculus Affair Bad Quarto*-solid stuff

Chechnyan Love Amalgamation-electronic music that I can dig

Strange Republik Infiltration-Unkle-like coolness

Dexter Canis Interuptus-listen to "letter for leaving" Strong melodies and Santana-ish solo

Bridge Over Hill Bridge Over Hill 2008-listen to "Get Guru". Sounds like it could've been a great odd hit in the 80's. Very cool.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/03 09:53 Straight in at the top of my list after being pimped by NPR is the album by Be Quiet. Background noise be damned, the album is raw and powerful and demands a listen.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/03 21:26 Jim Tyrell - too fun - amazing talent when you realize he's Citizen Six as well. I knew he could compose, but he plays and sings well too. Spread a little of that talent around, Jim!

Robots Don't Go To School - You a low-freq ambience junkie like me? Give I Welcome Tg-33, My New Robot Master a listen. Strap yourself in -- weightlessness can be trippy.

Larry Simon and the Groove Bacteria - as usual got the sweet smooth jazz groove. My fav is Spinning Reality.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/07 18:53 Spontobeat - Track 07 - love the harmonica work and rhythm of this song between the vacals and harmonica. Great listen.

Liz Coady - can sing! Yeah, nice.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/07 20:32 These are also very fine artists:

Kevin Neidig, awesome instrumentals
The Cham-peons; Captain Kick Ass is great, sorta Queen meets the Luney Tunes or Monte Python.
Sarah Kenvyn - WOW, man o man, WOW
Neurottica - Great album by a family, most excellent
Dexter - Great stuff, what else do you need.

Thanks for you opinions, matt parker.
And yes... backgorund noise... it was the least of my problems.
It was Februray 25th, Monday, and not a single note was recorded yet. This and my 'live recording' unexperience ended up in a not-so-clean sound.
There is my son shouting, the bell ringing, the chair creaking, the pc cooling fun making noise... and so on.
But there was also an ulterior goal: making songs, and how comforting is the fact that i was able to reach it.
And i'm glad you listened.
Regards,
Guzmán

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/09 09:42 So much good music it's hard to know where to start. I will join the crowd applauding Blue Apple Yokohama, esp. "Spinning" Also great are:
Broken Promise Keeper

Bridge Over Hill

The Ether Family, esp. "Bruno's Amnesty...."

Jump the Q

Late Night Laundry
esp. "Julie ruined everything

Helen Sventitsky

The Funk of Forty Thousand Years

Spontobeat

Well, that's who I've been listening to.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/09 19:39 wow a new discovery today

Sonic Extrusion Dies - kinda math-rock-ish, interesting rhytmic textures and layers of sounds.

listening to every single album in the juke box may take your whole life.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/09 19:53 jesus, i'm so not worthy of letting anyone hear my crap anymore.

quit reading this and immediately go listen to speak, see, surrender's incredibly awesome album "the midnight disease"

how incredibly humbiling it is to hear something so perfect in every single way.

wow, wow, wow.

i will now sell all my equipment and hide in my room.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/09 22:50 Cosmic American West - Love the sound of "Purrin' Like a Kitty Cat" except I'd rather hear the hum of 90 degree twin in a sport bike at 10,500 RPM then a cruiser -- that's purrin' to me.

+1 to Sean Longstreet - pick a track any track

P vs NP - got me again. Soulful in that backwoods sort of way. Great stuff, C. [Where's that there chord progression to Top10?]

Hear hear!

The best thing out of Merseyside for a long while.

I hope no-one missed Colin going medieval in our "opera" collab. In italian (so I'm told). Up in my profile player, a song named "Padre".

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/19 19:50 James Michael Taylor is a fine songwriter, and much admired in these parts (Fort Worth). Check out his RPM'07 album, for a taste of what "folk" music used to sound like, when giants like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger roamed the Earth.

Re:Pimpin Fellows in 2008 - 2008/04/29 15:28 Jim Tyrrell's album is really good. I wanted a copy as I don't have any traditional Irish drinking songs (his description) in my CD collection but was very happily surprised when I finally got a chance to listen to it. It rocks out more than I expected and I'd love to see him do this live. "Hungoverture" and "Gray Rainbow" are great, high-speed barnburners. "Half Empty/Half Full" and "Bad Ideas" are also great cuts. Great playing and singing throughout.
