I discovered this last night: We ran a line out from one computer, which had the drum sequence playing, into the effects chain, which ended in the recording computer. The chain has these effects: Dunlop Hendrix Fuzz -> DigiTech HotHead Distortion -> BBE Green Screamer -> MXR Carbon Copy delay -> Lyon modded Chorus -> DigiTech Quad 4 processor -> Ernie Ball volume.
We kicked on the HotHead with full gain, the delay with a timing setting comparable to the tempo of the beat, and the Quad 4 set to Gate. While the rest of the effected drums were neat, the effect on the 808-style kick drum made it sound almost exactly like a kettle drum. So digital it was acoustic again.
Anyone else using their effects to achieve results like these?
