The name of this project is The Favored Nations. Two guys who have been playing together for many years but often sound like we've been playing together for about ten minutes. Chris and I have been in two proper bands together: Resident Genius, which was a politically-left leaning band that released a split cd with Howard Zinn on Chicago's Thick Records in 2005. The current band is called The Seething Coast, affectionately named after a John Darnielle song. Both are indie-poppy-punk affairs. An internet search of 'Resident Genius' should bring up favorable reviews from everyone from AK Press to Alternative Press and Splendid. All told, we're EP addicts, having never released a proper full length from either aforementioned band. That's likely going to change in 2007 as The Seething Coast is currently writing songs for said full length. In the process, we've kept costs down and new music coming out at a reasonably brisk pace. In the past, we recorded everything with a friend who was sympathetic to our economic plight and cut us deals along the way. The Favored Nations, however, will be a much more scaled back affair: acoustic guitar, electric bass, minimal background noises and whistles, and simple vocal melodies. We are recording in Chris's apartment: one room, one microphone, live to tape. Yikes! I will, by default, be the primary songwriter....jeez... ok, Jason |
