Walter Sickert and The Army of Broken Toys

About

Description:

Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys have played across New England and around the world. Recently headlining at NXNE Holy Joe's in Toronto Canada. The band was fortunate to play in the legendary rock club the Stone Pony in NJ with Soil Work, and the respected Club Passim in Cambridge MA. The Broken Toys wrapped up a mini tour of Amsterdam and NYC playing with international favorites NaNuchKa. Convergence in Portland OR was a highlight bringing the music of the Broken Toys to masses of fans and allowing them a glimpse into their favorite cello player's stings – Zoe Keating. You can check out the band live most any week at any one of a number of locations around the country. October and November found the Broken Toys touring the West Coast at many venues including shows in support of the Tiger Lilies at Royce Hall in LA as well as Amanda Palmer - solo in Seattle.

Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys is proud to have been recently featured on MUCH music as well as on NPR's All Songs Considered, Open Mic and in the venerable music magazines ReGen, The Noise, North East Performer and Lollipop. The Boston Globe, Herald and Phoenix also took notice of the toys with lovely write-ups about Walter's unique musical style. There is so much more to come from the WIREFOREST – the wiretooth animals are hungry!

(Boston Globe january-9th-2007)

Goth-folk group Walter Sickert the Army of Broken Toys is about performance art as much as it is music. The band led by music madman Walter Sickert blends experimental and industrial noises for a sound that's something like Nine Inch Nails, horror movie soundtracks, and two radio stations that have their frequencies crossed. (Boston Globe january-9th-2007)

[Death]"-folk group Walter Sickert the Army of Broken Toys is about performance art as much as it is music. (Boston Globe January 2007)

"Holy Damn this is so good...if Jim Morrison is walking the afterworld, he surely must audition for this band. And I shall be the one to tell him to!" (Mike Loce) The Noise October 2006 issue 265

The band Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys formed from the "turmoil and loss" that came after their spouses took a road trip together and never returned. They storm stages and souls with their intensely theatrical but controlled chaos of harmony mixed with a palpable connection to the minds and spirits of the audience. Comparing their music to the melodies of Rasputina with the performances of Marilyn Manson and the presence of Johnny Cash, Walter Sickert's shows can range from loud with theatrical visuals to stripped-down acoustic sets. Framing the "violent forests" of their songs around love, betrayal and heartbreak, their music is for anyone who has ever been broken.
