About

Description: With a sound not unlike what one would expect if Jim Cuddy and K.D Lang had a love child and worked on a budget. Not exactly 'hurtin' songs, and not the excessive navel gazing one might expect either, just a girl, her guitar and a friend or two to help pass the rhyme.
Group Members:

Judy Cantwell- Guitar, Vocals, arrangments.

Reg Cantwell - Lyrics, horns, hand claps & finger snaps.

Album Name: Smallest of Pushes
Album Description: About our little project, the “Smallest of pushes”...

We haven’t slept any more than two hours a night this month, we’ve got so many instrument cables on the floor that a nighttime trip to the bathroom requires a miner’s helmet, the laundry is piled so high we can barely see over it, no time to get groceries so we’ve been surviving on carpet lint, cat hair and coffee. Thanks RPM.

This has been a challenge, one that we weren’t so sure about at the beginning and only doubted more as we went along. But somehow around the third week, things started to click, either that or we started hallucinating from sleep deprivation.

What started with a few sketched out songs and the hopes of writing the rest, soon became an all out rearrange and then led to a series of deranged all night sessions, just trying to let the creative side have full reign. With such a tight deadline our first thought was, how the heck? Then once we got into it realized that the editing side of the brain had to step aside and just let it all happen. Was it hard? You bet. Will we do it again? Damn straight! We just need a year to recover, or at least a month’s sleep.

The challenge was of course - 10 songs or 35 minutes of original music - well, we managed to create 9 songs clocking in at a total 35 minutes and 36 seconds. Whew!

These are a set of songs with a theme that at first seems elusive, but starts to take hold by the third or fourth track. Without all the schmaltzy Moon, June, Spoon stuff, this is ultimately an album about love, the kind that is; complicated, lost, found, lost again, abandoned, hoped for, dismembered and mis-remembered.

Either way they have no use or tolerance for the self-indulgent ‘purple prose of puppy love’. These are intimate and universal views of relationships about and for people who’ve been around the block, with the scars, secrets, bite marks and well worn tee shirts to prove it.

Thanks to the RPM & the Scope for all the above, but mostly thanks for the opportunity to face the challenge head on and have survived relatively unscathed and of course, for the smallest of pushes.
