Standard Candles is a Kansas City duo that officially formed in the summer of 2006. Its’ 2 members, Tommy Johnson and Dave Semro, have been collaborating on and off since 2001 when they met while working for the same employer. Their sound can be described as a synthetic mix of ambient keyboards, rhythmic beats, and acoustic guitars, complimented by the desperate and haunting vocals of lead singer Tommy Johnson. Johnson has been playing solo and perfecting his vocal and musical style on the Kansas City scene since 2005. Semro has been writing music on his own since 1995, when he was the lead singer for the short lived Kansas City band, Mechanical Ocean. The electric and enchanting atmosphere of their music is a welcome addition to the eclectic Kansas City music scene. |
