As an avid fan of heavy metal, it's long been a sore spot for me as to the general treatment of the genre by your average person. I also, however, openly admit to the mistakes and trite sentiments that so often permeate metal today, and hence I have always felt a need to write music that stretches beyond the boundaries so often set by metal musicians and their fans. Will I be doing anything drastically different? No, not necessarily. I just want to write an album that many can appreciate, something that speaks more to the heart of who I am than to the trappings of a culture. In particular, I want this album to be about fiction. I'm also a novelist and poet, and fictional places and people have come to mean a great deal to me over the course of my life. If all goes as planned, my album this year will focus on the thoughts, themes, and worlds of authors, poets, and gave developers that have inspired me over the years, and hopefully make a point or two about the disparity between the glory these things once held and the machine-like regularity with which they seem to develop themselves in the minds of young people today. |
